Where Nature and Home Become One

Kat The Artist
Kat says, "what we are missing today is our visual connection to nature in the home. When created, the mind and body don't know it is real or decor. Having nature art represented as a permanent design element, soothes the cells and relaxes the mind for an energetically balanced, comfortable feeling in your space."

MEET KAT CUNNINGHAM

Owner and Artist

Kat Cunningham has been connected to art in many phases of her life. Kat received her B.S. Commercial Art degree and moved into the advertising world in the 70’s. She and her artist husband ran the hottest west coast studio in San Diego, winning many awards, She belonged to the prestigious SILA, Society of Illustrators Los Angeles and flew with the United States Air Force as a Artist Illustrator documenting our country’s Air Force Art Collection. Receiving her teacher’s credential at SDSU, Kat taught 3 dimensional art for LAUSD, and later created a model Commercial Art Vocational Training program. Always wanting to expand more, Kat’s love for texture, and 3-D shapes led her to become interested in the Fiber Art’s movement. She started the first Fiber Arts magazine in the country, taught workshops ,and became influenced by the top fiber designers in the world.

In the 80’s, a 30 day vacation to Europe became a 7 year stay in Heidelberg, Germany. There she created an international lifestyle magazine and her love of painting and art in general was fed by living in Europe’s art culture. Other life choices rounded out her subject matter. Years later moving to Maui gave her a closer nature connection and a brighter palette. Kat represented other artists and went into product design; from jewelry, tile painting to painting Hawaii’s beautiful flora. Over the years Kat’s message has always been about the concept of oneness with nature.

Kat creates compositions that remind us we and environmental nature are really one. We need to live in respect and acknowledge that nature is what keeps us in balance. Kat presently lives in Florence, Oregon and is now influenced by its natural coastal flora and fauna as seen in her tile, and painting collection.

Kat's arcylic, collage paintings have the same style and connection to nature as her tiles for homes. She wants you to use your senses to anchor each piece in your space for visual comfort.
